Larry Ellison is Iron Man!

You thought that Iron Man was actually billionaire industrialist Tony Stark, did you? Well I've uncovered evidence that that's just a poorly disguised alias for billionaire software mogul Larry Ellison. The proof:

Larry Ellison:

Tony Stark:

Uncanny, isn't it?

And just in case you don't think they capured the right attitude...

Larry Ellison:

Tony Stark:

There you have it. Larry's face, Larry's voice, Larry's cars, Larry's money... Hey! Larry flies fighter jets. And those computers of "Tony Stark's" sure as hell aren't running Windows.

...and how come we never see Larry and Iron Man together, hmmm?

  1. Having watched the movie (at an Oracle employees premiere) I can agree and I'm sure so do my fellow Oracle employees.

  2. From Wikipedia:
Iron Man first appeared in Tales of Suspense #39 (March 1963).
In 1963, Larry was what, 20 years old? In 1963, young Larry was a nobody. And definitely not somebody to base a super hero on.

But hey, if it makes him feel happy with himself, whatevs. Namaste, Larry Stark.

  3. Oh, come now, Justin. A sense of humor would look good on you.

Besides, you display a misunderstanding of the fundamental nature of Time in the comics/movie worlds. For example, Superman appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938, yet he is perennially 30-35(ish) years old due to periodic retconning. As for the current incarnation of Iron Man... why, he's contemporary, of course, having made his first appearance this year in Afghanistan! So let's not hear any stale, outdated criticism about "first appearances"!

You also seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of Iron Man himself. Didn't you even READ that Wikipedia article? Good thing I'm old enough not to have had to. Tony Stark (and I'm talking about his first incarnation) was a weapons dealer, a womanizing playboy, an alcoholic, and a first-class asshole by any measure. He was everything that Bruce Wayne pretended to be, and more. As is stated in the movie he is "clearly not the superhero type". But even an asshole can have redeeming qualities.

That's one of the reasons I was so jazzed to see that he was being played by Robert Downey, Jr.. Downey's personal experiences made him the natural choice for this role.

So go back and read that Wikipedia article, paying close attention to the kind of personality Stan Lee had in mind when he was designing the character. In the future, don't be so quick to say who is or isn't superhero material.

    Shalom.

  4. Agree with you. And I like Ellison's attitude.

Gates is a nerd, Jobs is a salesman, and The Woz is a prankster. IBM is a faceless suit. But Ellison knows how to live it up.
